👋🏾 Local Side Quests is a guide to enjoying your time outside of work in and near LIC. Each issue is a curated list of classes, activities and gatherings nearby that invite community, curiosity, and/or creativity. Disclosure: This newsletter may include paid placement, but opinions are my own.

💭 On My Mind

How many people take advantage of our easy commute to most Broadway theaters? Over the weekend, I found myself in Times Square after running errands and decided to buy a cheap last minute seat! I walked up to the box office in a couple of theaters before landing on a $45 ticket to Cats: The Jellicle Ball. I had just enough time to run home, drop off my bags, eat a quick dinner, and get back to the theater. If you haven't tried it before, walking up the box office a couple hours before showtime can be a fun gamble!

Enjoy this week's curation! I think there's a good variety :)

⭐ Spotlight - Hunters Point Parks Conservancy

This week's spotlight is a community organization that I really enjoy following over the spring and summer. Hunters Point Parks Conservancy focuses on preserving what little greenspace we have in LIC. They bring fun and often educational activities to the water front tailored for a variety of age groups throughout the season. They host everything from birding events (special shoutout to anyone who saw that bird in Bryant Park!) to volunteer gardening.

Check out their upcoming ecological events!
